What's the difference between Individual, Kickstart, and Done For You?

The difference is how much help you get: Individual — You get the code and set everything up yourself (with the AI-powered onboarding wizard to guide you).. Kickstart — Everything in Individual, plus 2 hours of 1-on-1 consulting to review your architecture, walk through deployment, and help customize the codebase.. Done For You — Everything in Individual, plus I provision your Hetzner server, configure DNS/SSL, set up third-party accounts (Stripe, Postmark, etc.), and verify a working production deploy..

What happens after I purchase?

Email hboon@stacknaut.com with your GitHub username after payment. You'll receive invites to 3 private GitHub repos within a few hours, along with a Getting Started guide. From there, you open your AI coding agent in the repo and say "Onboard me" — the onboarding wizard walks you through configuring your app, provisioning your server, setting up accounts, and deploying to production, all interactively.

What do updates include and how do I get them?

Your purchase includes 12 months of updates. Updates are delivered via the GitHub repos — just run git pull to get the latest changes. Updates include bug fixes, dependency upgrades, new features, and improvements extracted from the production apps running on this stack. After 12 months, you keep the code forever; you just stop receiving new updates.

Can I use this for multiple projects?

Yes. The individual license allows you to use Stacknaut for unlimited personal projects. For team use or if multiple developers will be working with the codebase, contact me for a team license.

Do I need to know Vue/Fastify to use this?

Basic familiarity helps, but the kit is designed to work well with AI coding agents. The AGENTS.md file (and the boilerplate code) gives your AI assistant all the context it needs to help you build features, even if you're learning the stack as you go. Vue and Fastify are powerful yet well-designed, simple tools that are easy to learn and manage, especially with AI coding agents.

TypeScript throughout — frontend, backend, and shared code. Type safety from database to UI, which also helps AI coding agents understand your codebase better and make fewer mistakes.

What email functionality is included?

Stacknaut includes transactional email via Postmark, pre-configured for magic link login emails. The email setup — templates, SMTP configuration, and sending logic — is wired up end-to-end. You can extend it to send any transactional emails your app needs (welcome emails, notifications, etc.) using the same Postmark integration.

What about analytics, SEO, and logging?

All included. PostHog is integrated for product analytics. SEO basics are pre-configured — sitemap.xml, robots.txt, OG meta tags, and pre-rendering for all public pages so search engines index them properly. For production logging, the kit includes Vector log aggregation with BetterStack integration, so you can monitor your app from day one.

My tech stack is different, can I still use it?

Stacknaut is built with Vue, Fastify, and PostgreSQL. You're free to swap out parts of the stack, but honestly, the goal of using a production-proven starter kit is to stick with it first — it's been battle-tested in real products. You can always swap parts out later once you've shipped and validated your idea. The architecture patterns, deployment setup, and AI agent configuration work regardless of which components you eventually replace.

Is Stacknaut better than AI tools like Lovable or Bolt?

They serve different purposes. Lovable and Bolt are great for quick prototypes and MVPs. Stacknaut is for when you need production-grade infrastructure — real auth, Stripe billing, your own server, code you fully own and control. The most important thing is to ship, get feedback, and iterate. Stacknaut helps you ship quickly on a solid, proven foundation built by someone with 30 years of experience shipping software, so you can iterate with confidence.

Why only Stripe? What about Lemon Squeezy, Paddle, etc.?

Stacknaut is an extraction of what I use in production every day. I've been running real SaaS products on Stripe, so that's what's battle-tested and included. The integration is thorough — subscriptions, webhooks, billing portal, checkout — because I've needed all of it. Adding payment processors I don't actively use would mean shipping untested code.

Why Hetzner instead of AWS/Vercel/Render/Digital Ocean/etc?

Cost and simplicity. A Hetzner server costs a fraction of cloud providers and handles significant traffic. Kamal 2 makes deployment as simple as a single command, with zero-downtime deploys. You own your infrastructure without vendor lock-in. You could just as easily set up Digital Ocean and use the starter kit to deploy your app to it. Alternatively, you can also deploy to Vercel and Render with only some changes to configuration, but not the codebase.
